How this calculator works
Add asset and liability rows with optional labels and amounts. Labels and amounts stay on this device only.
Primary result is estimated net worth with an explicit sign. Secondary results include totals, optional liabilities-to-assets ratio, and row counts.
Formula / methodology
totalAssets = Σ asset amounts totalLiabilities = Σ liability amounts netWorth = totalAssets − totalLiabilities ratio = totalLiabilities / totalAssets (if assets > 0)
- If assets are $0, the liabilities-to-assets ratio is not applicable (avoids Infinity).
- Amounts may be $0. Empty unused amount fields are treated as $0.
Worked example
Assets: Cash $20,000 + Investments $80,000 + Home $300,000 = $400,000. Liabilities: Mortgage $220,000 + Credit card $5,000 = $225,000.
Net worth = $175,000. Liabilities-to-assets ratio = 56.25%.
Important assumptions
- Values are user estimates. Asset market values may change.
- Taxes and liquidation costs are not modeled.
- Maximum 50 asset rows and 50 liability rows.
