How this calculator works
Choose holdings method (shares known or investment amount known) and dividend method (dividend per share or annual yield).
Enter share price and payment frequency. Results show annual income, per-payment amount, market value, and yield.
Formula / methodology
shares (investment mode) = investment amount ÷ share price annual DPS income = shares × dividend/share/payment × payments per year annual yield income = market value × annual yield monthly equivalent = annual income ÷ 12 yield = annual income ÷ market value
- Payment frequencies: monthly 12, quarterly 4, semiannually 2, annually 1.
- Equivalent DPS and yield inputs should reproduce the same annual income within rounding tolerance.
Worked example
100 shares at $50 with $0.50 quarterly DPS → market value $5,000, annual income $200, monthly equivalent ≈ $16.67, yield 4.00%.
$10,000 invested at $40/share with 4% annual yield paid quarterly → 250 shares, annual income $400, quarterly payment $100.
Important assumptions
- Dividend amounts and schedules are user assumptions — not live market data.
- Share price is held constant for market-value and yield presentation.
- Fractional shares are allowed mathematically.
- Dividend yield is not total return and does not predict price appreciation.
