Auto Loan Calculator
Estimate an auto loan monthly payment from vehicle price, down payment, trade-in, APR, term, sales tax rate, and fees. Sales tax uses an explicit Phase 4A convention — not a jurisdiction database.

How this calculator works
Enter vehicle price, down payment, trade-in, APR, term (up to 120 months), sales tax rate, and fees.
The calculator derives taxable amount, sales tax, amount financed, monthly payment, interest, and optional amortization tables.
Formula / methodology
Taxable = max(Price − Trade-in, 0) Tax = Taxable × tax rate Amount financed = Price − Down − Trade-in + Tax + Fees M = P × [r(1+r)^N] / [(1+r)^N − 1]
- Amount financed is floored at $0 when credits cover acquisition.
- Local jurisdictions may tax trade-ins differently — interpret estimates accordingly.
- Payment and interest use the shared cents amortization schedule.
Worked example
A $35,000 vehicle with $5,000 down, $5,000 trade-in, 6% sales tax, and $500 fees finances $27,300 (tax $1,800 on a $30,000 taxable amount).
At 6% APR for 60 months, the estimated monthly payment is about $527.79.
Important assumptions
- Not a lending offer or approval.
- Tax treatment varies by jurisdiction; this tool does not infer location.
- No insurance products, gap coverage, or dealer add-ons beyond the fees you enter.
Common questions
Taxable amount is max(vehicle price − trade-in, 0). Sales tax equals that amount times your tax rate. Some places tax differently — adjust inputs if needed.
Amount financed becomes $0 and no loan payment is calculated.
It sums cash down payment, sales tax, fees, and loan payments — without counting trade-in equity as cash spent twice.
